Yet another Classic going to be Ruined in the name of Remake!

G GOWTHAM
Bollywood has a history of producing mediocre remakes of some of South India's greatest films. Movies such as Ready, Vikramarkudu, Pokiri, Okkadu, Maryada Ramanna, Kaithi, Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, Driving Licence, Stalin, Ramana, and many more have failed owing to ineffective execution.

One famous example was the adaptation of the Marathi film Sairaat, which became Dhadak, starring Jahnvi Kapoor. Despite a strong box office success, Dhadak failed to equal the original. karan johar is now preparing to create Dhadak 2, a spiritual sequel starring siddhant chaturvedi and Tripiti Dimri, based on Mari Selvaraj's Pariyerum Perumal, which was produced by Pa Ranjith.

The original tamil film, released in 2018, delves into caste battles in rural tamil Nadu, concentrating on the hero's persecution as a member of the persecuted Pallar caste. Pariyerum Perumal gained critical acclaim for its honest and unflinching representation of caste relations and social challenges. It spurred crucial debates, but it also drew criticism for its daring approach. The film's compelling music bolstered its appreciation.

The issue remains whether bollywood can capture the spirit of the original or fall short by adding cosmetic gloss while losing the substance of the original's social critique.
