The Uttar Pradesh police detained a teenage voter on sunday in connection with a viral video circulating on social media showing him casting several ballots for a bjp candidate at a voting station in a popular state.

The offender, known as Rajan Singh, was detained after various opposition party officials, including congress and the Samajwadi party, published a video of the event on X. In the two-minute video, the voter can be seen voting for bjp candidate mukesh Rajput at least eight times using an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM). However, the india Herald was unable to independently verify the video's validity.

Notably, Rajput is a bjp contender for the Farrukhabad lok sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh.

Following the disclosure, an FIR was registered at the Naya Gaon police station based on ARO Prateet Tripathi's allegation.

The case has been registered under several sections of the indian Penal Code (IPC) and other relevant laws, including IPC Section 171F (offense related to elections), IPC Section 419 (punishment for cheating by personation), Sections 128, 132, and 136 of the Representation of the people Act (related to maintaining the secrecy of voting, fraud at elections, and other election offenses) and others.

Even the election commission took note of the situation and directed the appropriate authorities to take immediate and effective action.

"Awareness of the spreading video has been established. "The concerned district election Officer has been directed to take prompt and effective action," stated Uttar Pradesh's Chief election Officer.

The poll panel has also asked authorities to suspend and discipline those officials who were present at the voting station when the event occurred.
