Telangana Hyderabad - Many in city yet to receive voter information slips
VIS was not distributed, despite the electoral authorities' orders to the appropriate police to do the duty before polling. Mallepally locals express dissatisfaction over the lack of door-to-door canvassing or slip distribution by the ghmc or poll office in their neighbourhood of around fifty homes. In a similar vein, a number of these voters in neighbourhoods and even gated communities across the city still do not have slips.
Mallepally voter Yuvraj Kamble stated, "There are no voter slips with us after the recent assembly elections and the upcoming LS polls. Previously, we voters used to receive the slips from party leaders." We have abstained from voting in the assembly elections as a result," he continued. Social activists claim that a significant impact on the voting % in the elections would result from voters not receiving voter slips. Activist Asif Hussain Sohail said that "the election authorities have been creating awareness among voters to vote and increase voting percentage, but failed to distribute slips."
He emphasised that "those who did not have slips to vote in the most recent assembly elections were turned away because they did not have a VIS with them." This might potentially be a factor influencing the polling percentage. According to Asif, only around 60% of voters have gotten voter slips; the rest have not yet received them.
