EC increases polling hours in Telangana due to heat wave

SIBY JEYYA
In response to worries over Telangana's current heat wave, the election commission (EC) has declared that polling hours for the state's impending lok sabha elections will be extended. The ec announced the decision to extend polling hours in a formal announcement on Wednesday, May 1. With the difficult weather, this action attempts to encourage higher voter participation.

In a statement, the ec stated that the decision was made after taking into account a proposal from the telangana Chief Electoral Officer, who emphadata-sized the necessity of extended polling hours in certain areas of each of the state's 17 parliamentary seats. Representations from rival candidates and political groups served as the impetus for the request.

According to the amended timetable, voting in telangana for all parliamentary seats will now take place from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. This change gives voters more time to comfortably cast their ballots despite the high heat. On May 13, there will be parliamentary elections in all 17 telangana seats. In the current lok sabha elections of 2024, the nation has already seen two waves of voting, with turnout reaching 66 percent in each. The vote counting will happen on the 4th of June.
