Germany exudes confidence in Indian judicial system after diplomat summoned

Following India's summons of a German diplomat for what it called "blatant interference" over statements made against delhi Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal's detention, the German Foreign Ministry Spokesperson praised and expressed faith in the indian legal system on Thursday.

"The indian constitution - and I can say this from my own perspective as I was posted in india myself - guarantees fundamental human values and freedoms," the German Foreign Ministry stated, citing india as an important partner in Asia. Furthermore, india is a significant Asian ally with whom we share similar democratic ideals."

The German ministry stated, "The topic was discussed with the Ministry of External Affairs on Saturday," following criticism from India. Let me stress once more how much india and germany would want to work together in a trusting environment and pursue tighter collaboration."
The German Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, who was called over the statements, questioned the extent of the action that would be taken against the US and German ambassadors, saying, "I would be reluctant to talk about confidential, internal discussions here."

It was hoped earlier on Saturday, march 23, that Kejriwal's case would be handled according to "standards relating to the independence of the judiciary and basic democratic principles" by a German foreign affairs official.

Like everyone else who is accused, Mr. kejriwal has a right to a fair and impartial trial. This includes the unrestricted use of any legal routes that are accessible to him. The spokesman went on, "The presumption of innocence is a fundamental component of the rule of law and must apply to him [sic]."

The Enforcement Directorate detained aam aadmi party leader arvind kejriwal on 21 march in connection with the delhi liquor policy investigation.
