Cargo Ship Hits Major Bridge in Baltimore, Triggering Collapse

Ship monitoring data indicates that the Singapore-flagged Dali cargo ship struck the Key Bridge in the US city of Baltimore. The 300-meter-long ship was traveling to Colombo, Sri Lanka. The Dali departed the terminal at Port Breeze at around 12:45 AM ET (4:45 AM GMT), according to maritime radars. Forty-five minutes later, it moved in the direction of the Francis Scott Key Bridge but stopped there. police helicopters have been continuously circling the area, according to air traffic radars.


An incident on the Francis Scott Key Bridge was confirmed by the US Coast Guard and the maryland Transportation Authority. At 1:30 p.m. local time on Tuesday, reports broke of the collapse of the longest bridge in Baltimore and the third-longest continuous truss bridge in the world. According to preliminary accounts, the tragedy occurred while there were around twenty persons on the bridge.
