Telangana Hyderabad sees significant improvement in Winter Air Quality
The winter air quality in hyderabad has changed significantly, according to the independent think tank Centre for Science and Environment (CSE). The study, which covers the months of october 1, 2023, and january 31, 2024, provides important information about the pollution levels in the city, with a special emphasis on PM2.5 concentrations.
Hyderabad's wintertime PM2.5 levels were much lower than they were the year before, according to the CSE's data. Hyderabad's average wintertime PM2.5 concentration was 43.6 µg/m³, a 7% drop from the previous wintertime average. Furthermore, Hyderabad's winter peak PM2.5 level was reported at 99 µg/m³, demonstrating a significant decrease and a 35 percent drop from the winter peak the year before.
Although hyderabad has made significant strides in reducing wintertime pollution, the CSE research also provides insight into South India's overall air quality situation. Gummidipoondi in tamil Nadu was found to be the most polluted city in South india in terms of PM2.5 levels during the winter season, out of 46 cities in the area having real-time monitoring and enough data for study of the winter air quality.

Gummidipoondi recorded a worrying amount of pollution in the winter, with a high PM2.5 level of 191 µg/m³. The average winter PM2.5 level was 83.4 µg/m³. With an average winter PM2.5 level of 73.3 µg/m³ and a high of 156 µg/m³, Visakhapatnam in andhra pradesh rated as the second most polluted city in the area, closely behind Gummidipoondi.
