The central government has implemented a significant reduction in petrol and diesel prices in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep. petrol and diesel prices have been slashed by Rs 15.3 per litre in Andrott and Kalpeni Islands, and by Rs 5.2 per litre in Kavaratti and Minicoy. Union Petroleum minister Hardeep Singh puri announced this move, emphasizing prime minister Narendra Modi's commitment to treating the people of lakshadweep as family. This reduction in fuel prices comes just before the announcement of lok sabha election dates, signalling the government's efforts to provide relief to citizens. With the Model Code of Conduct about to be enforced, such announcements become crucial. The dates for the lok sabha elections are set to be announced soon, and prime minister Modi's government has taken this step to address the concerns of the people of Lakshadweep.
Notably, this reduction in fuel prices is not limited to lakshadweep alone. Just a day prior to the initiation of the Model Code of Conduct, the government had already reduced petrol and diesel prices by Rs 2 per litre across the country. This move comes after nearly two years of stable fuel prices. In the national capital, New Delhi, the price of petrol has now decreased to Rs 94.72 per litre from Rs 96.72 per litre, while diesel is priced at Rs 87.62 per litre compared to Rs 89.62 per litre previously.
The reduction in fuel prices in lakshadweep, along with the nationwide decrease, aims to provide relief to citizens and demonstrate the government's commitment to addressing their concerns, especially in the lead-up to the lok sabha elections.
