The recent partnership between the
telugu desam party (TDP), Jana Sena, and
bharatiya janata party (BJP) has changed the political scene in the Darshi constituency. At first, as per the arrangement between the
tdp and Jana Sena, the latter was given the Darshi seat despite the vehement protestations of the Jana Sena leaders.
Initially, it was suggested that the two parties work together to choose a qualified candidate, but things changed because of an electoral agreement with the BJP. As a consequence, the
tdp lost one seat and the Jana Sena lost three seats in the state, including Darshi. As a result, there is now more rivalry among
tdp hopefuls for the Darshi ticket.
It is expected that the
tdp would field a candidate in the Darshi seat, despite the fact that neither the Jana Sena nor the
tdp have formally confirmed their nominees. It seems doubtful that the Jana Sena would run for another seat in the
district given their reduced number of seats.
The possibility of former
minister Sidda Raghava Rao joining the
tdp has also sparked debate. Given his past defection to the YSRCP, some
party officials are wary, while others see possible advantages, especially among the
arya Vaishya group. Prioritizing this factor, the
tdp leadership is contemplating a candidate from the
arya Vaishya group for Markapuram.
Sidda Raghavrao and Ongole
mp Magunta Srinivasula
reddy are apparently willing to join the
tdp, despite rumors that
tdp National General Secretary
nara lokesh is against accepting defectors. The dynamics in the
district would also be further complicated by the readiness of YSRCP chief of Addanki,
krishna Chaitanya, and former
mla Garatayya to join the TDP.
Due to his strong relationship with Chandrababu Naidu, Dr. Garatayya is believed to have influence in the Parchur and Santhanoothalapadu seats in addition to Addanki, and he is hoping that Darshi would give him a ticket. To further complicate matters in the seat, Dr. Lakshmi, the granddaughter of former
minister Gottipati Hanumantha Rao, is also hoping for a ticket.
