Centre decides to celebrate Sept 17 every year as ‘Hyderabad Liberation Day’

The Center said on tuesday that september 17 will be observed as "Hyderabad Liberation Day" annually. hyderabad was ruled by the Nizams and did not gain freedom until 13 months after india gained its independence on august 15, 1947, according to a statement from the Union home Ministry.
 

On september 17, 1948, the area was freed from Nizam's authority following "Operation Polo," a police operation.
 
"However, the people in the area have demanded that september 17th be observed as hyderabad Liberation Day.
 
"The government of india decided to celebrate september 17th as 'Hyderabad Liberation Day' every year to remember the martyrs who liberated hyderabad and to instill the flame of patriotism in the minds of youth," the notice stated.

The Razakars opposed hyderabad state's union with the Union of india and demanded that it either join pakistan or turn into a Muslim dominion when india attained independence.
 
To become a part of the Union of india, the people in the area bravely battled against the Razakars' crimes.
 
In hyderabad, the private militia known as the Razakars had both perpetrated atrocities and supported the Nizam regime.
 

The Nizami state of hyderabad was seized by the Union of india on september 17, 1948, after military action that was started by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the home minister at the time.
 
For the past few years, the narendra modi administration has observed "Hyderabad Liberation Day" on september 17.
 
Amit Shah, the Union home minister, had already attended the function.
