OSCARS 2024 - What Oppenheimer Did Better Than The Dark Knight, Inception & Dunkirk ?

Leaving aside debates over campaign tactics, oscar nominations, and other aspects of the awards season, Oppenheimer was always a stronger contender than The Dark Knight, Inception, or dunkirk to win Best Picture under christopher Nolan. Even though they were excellent films, the other three struggled to fit the pattern of the "typical" Best Picture winner.

While Inception was a risky first-time science fiction picture that may mislead viewers, The Dark Knight was a superhero movie. The Academy likes war films, but dunkirk was hardly the archetypal example. In the meanwhile, Oppenheimer employed Nolan's signature technique in a huge biopic—a genre that audiences love to support.

Another point that supported Oppenheimer's argument was the fact that dunkirk, The Dark Knight, and Inception did not win Best Picture. The lack of even a nomination for The Dark Knight caused such a stir that the Academy altered the number of candidates for Best Picture. The storyline that suggested Nolan had done his hollywood dues and that it was appropriate to honor one of his films in this way included Inception and Dunkirk's subsequent defeat. Then, it's possible that Oppenheimer's historic oscar night and Best Picture triumph were made possible exclusively by this past.
