Telangana Hyderabad - Social activist raises concern over police ops

SIBY JEYYA
A social activist based in the city has written to chief minister A revanth Reddy, DGP ravi Gupta, and City police Commissioner K. Sreenivasa Reddy, expressing concerns about the purported human rights violations associated with the hyderabad Police's "Mission Chabutra," "Cordon and Search," and "Counseling of Pedestrians" special drives. The activist is pleading with them to reconsider their tactics and guarantee that all law enforcement operations are carried out in compliance with the law.

In his letters, S. Q. Masood made note of instances where the police force violated residents' rights and damaged the department's and the government's reputation. These incidents are presently trending on social media. These particular urges give rise to grave questions about their morality and legality.

"Although I accept that searches and cordon operations have been largely suspended, the people find it quite concerning that Mission Chabutra and the nocturnal counseling sessions are still being conducted. He mentioned that there are other cases in which police officers are seen questioning pedestrians, using violent language, and even beating people for no other reason than they are sitting outside their homes on publicly accessible footage.

He went on to say that there have been cases where police have targeted CEOs who provide food. Late-night street vendors who sell fruits, ice cream, and other commodities are frequently the targets of abuse.

Masood reaffirmed that the freedom of movement, which includes the freedom to wander and the right to peaceful assembly, is a basic right that is only restricted in a way that is permissible by law.

He said, "It is crucial that the hyderabad police reassesses their tactics and makes sure that all law enforcement operations are carried out within the bounds of the law and protocols with the highest regard for human rights and dignity."
