Russian Billionaire's Yacht Seized.!
U.S. federal prosecutors have sought court approval to sell the yacht, citing exorbitant maintenance costs. According to reports, maintaining the yacht costs up to $20 million, with monthly expenses totaling $600,000 for maintenance and an additional $140,000 for insurance. Other miscellaneous expenses add an extra $178,000. Given the substantial financial burden, the prosecutors argue that selling the vessel is a practical decision.
However, a new development has emerged as a company has claimed ownership of the yacht, disputing Kerimov's connection to it. The company filed a petition in court against the decision to sell the vessel and requested a stay on the sale pending a resolution of its request to dismiss the civil forfeiture investigation. Additionally, the company pledged to reimburse the U.S. for the maintenance costs incurred if the yacht is returned to them.
The case underscores the complex legal and diplomatic challenges arising from sanctions and asset seizures in the ongoing geopolitical tensions.
