Telangana is facing a drought, says CM Revanth

SIBY JEYYA
Telangana is experiencing a drought for the first time in several years, as chief minister A revanth reddy himself acknowledged on Wednesday.

The chief minister, who confirmed that the State was experiencing a drought, urged farmers to "understand the situation" and asked for a unified front in their requests for the release of water from reservoirs. In conversation with farmers following the launch of the "Rythu Nestham" wallet PLATFORM' target='_blank' title='digital-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW">digital program, which aims to connect Rythu Vedikas in the State via video conferencing, revanth reddy pledged to support them through hard times. He stated that there was a severe water shortage in several areas of the State as a result of insufficient rainfall over the previous year, which had caused water levels in reservoirs to drop.

He advised the farmers to be aware of the situations that exist in the State, citing the growing need for water release from reservoirs to rescue crops from the former districts of Karimnagar, Khammam, Nalgonda, and Mahabubnagar. According to him, preparations were being made by the State administration to make sure that there was no drinking water issue in the approaching summer.

Citing the State's favorable environment and land for the growth of around twenty-six distinct crop varieties, he recommended farmers to cultivate not just rice, cotton, and chilies but also other crops that can increase production and profitability. He urged farmers not to lose heart even in the data-face of adversity, saying that crop rotation would assist in lessening the burden of investments and water use on them during these trying times. The government, he added, was prepared to support the farming community as a whole.

The chief minister had earlier stated that farmers will regularly receive timely guidance and updates from agricultural specialists and authorities through the Rythu Nestham platform. The State government would develop a plan of action to guarantee that farmers received fair compensation for the crops they farmed. In addition to agricultural debt waivers, crop procurement, and investment assistance for Rythu Bharosa, he stated that the State government will keep offering farmers life insurance coverage under the Rythu Bima plan. He stated that to guarantee farmers get their investment back amid droughts and floods, the State government has returned to the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.

With an investment of Rs. 97 crore, the State government launched the "Rythu Nestham" initiative, which aims to install video conference equipment in 2,601 Rythu Vedikas over the next three years. Out of the 119 assembly seats, 110 had at least one unit installed in the first phase, which saw the release of around Rs. 4.07 crore. Farmers will be able to increase the profitability of agriculture with the help of the wallet PLATFORM' target='_blank' title='digital-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW">digital platform. He said that they might talk about their experiences with other farmers in the State.

In partnership with professor Jayashankar of telangana State Agriculture University, farmers and agriculture extension officers will participate in the Rythu Nestham program every tuesday and Friday.

The chief minister began the program from his house, while other participants included deputy chief minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, Agriculture Secretary M Raghunandan Rao, and others.
