More than 20 days have passed since the general elections in pakistan, where no party secured an absolute majority. The likelihood of a coalition government is high, and the election of the prime minister is scheduled for sunday evening through a vote in the general assembly. The frontrunner for the position is 72-year-old Shehbaz Sharif, a leader of the pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party and the brother of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
In the general elections held last month, the pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, despite its leader being in jail, secured the most seats with 101. The PML-N won 75 seats, while Bilawal Zardari Bhutto's pakistan Peoples party (PPP) and MQM-Pakistan secured 54 and 17 seats, respectively. With no single party achieving a full majority, efforts have been made by the PML-N, PPP, and MQM-P to form a coalition government. The combined total of seats for these parties is 145, surpassing the required majority.
