50+ Releases, But only 5 Movies Made Noise - Tollywood Failing!

G GOWTHAM
Tollywood's first two months are over, and this month has seen a good number of theatre releases, including the Sankranthi specialties Hanuman, guntur Kaaram, and Naa Saami Ranga. In the first two months of 2024, more than fifty films were released in theatres; yet, only ten percent, or five, managed to generate buzz at the ticket booths.

Hanuman, the year's biggest blockbuster, became the highest-grossing telugu movie of 2024 at the box office after going completely insane. The figures for guntur Kaaram are respectable, but not as good as those of a Mahesh-Trivikram movie that opens on Sankranthi. Naa Saami Ranga is a box office solace for nagarjuna and did very well on the home circuit.

Given their genre and reputation, Ambajipeta marriage Band and Ooru Peri Bhairavakona have done rather well. These are the only tier-2 films of the year that have generated any kind of buzz at the box office. 2024 has gotten off to a rather dismal start, with fewer than 10% of attempts succeeding. With films like pushpa 2, Devara, Game Changer, and kalki scheduled for release in the second half of the year, it remains to be seen how tollywood will do in the remaining months.
