In the midst of voting for ten rajya sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, Manoj Pandey, the top whip for the Samajwadi party (SP), announced his resignation. Manoj Pandey represents the Raebareli district as an mla from Unchahar. The news is disappointing for akhilesh yadav, the president of the SP. Eight party MLAs missed a meeting that akhilesh yadav scheduled earlier on Monday.

Manoj Pandey, mla and chief whip of the Samajwadi party in the state assembly, resigned from his position, dealing a blow to the party led by Akhilesh Yadav. His resignation occurs just before the state's pivotal rajya sabha polls. There are several rumours that certain MLAs from the Samajwadi party would vote for bjp candidates twice.

"I would like to inform you that I was appointed as the 'Chief Whip' of the Samajwadi party Legislative Assembly," is what Manoj Pandey said in a letter to Chief Akhilesh Yadav. I am therefore giving up my role as "Chief Whip." Kindly acknowledge it." The reason for his resignation was not stated in the letter. Rumours have circulated that he may join the governing bjp during the rajya sabha elections, following his resignation.
