Education Ministry pushes for 6-plus age admission to Grade 1!
The central government has advised that only students above 6 years of age should join the 1st class across India. The central government has advised that only students above 6 years of age should join the 1st class in schools run by central and state education boards across India. This decision has been taken based on the National education Policy. Union education Ministry Joint Secretary archana Sharma Awasthi has sent a letter to all states and union territories. It says:
First-class admission:
According to the Right to Free and Compulsory education Act 2009 and the National education Policy 2020, all states and Union Territories are advised to start the first class admission for students above 6 years (6+ years).  As the academic year 2024-25 is about to start soon, admissions are also about to begin. In your state, you should ensure that students above 6 years of age are enrolled in class one. The action taken in this regard should also be reported.
However, most of the private schools have already closed admissions. Especially in leading private schools, admissions are finalized in the month of December. Usually, children who complete 5 years are enrolled in class 1 and children who complete 3 years are enrolled in LKG class. While the age limit for CBSE classes has been increased based on the National education Policy, the age limit has been fixed at Class 5 in the State Board of Education. In this situation, this announcement of the central government has caused confusion among parents.

Will there be any problem while writing the public exam?
Similarly, confusion has arisen whether those who have already completed 5 years of age and are studying in the subsequent classes after joining the 1st class, will data-face problems while writing the public examination. The parents have demanded that the central government should clarify this.
