Assam Cabinet: No More Tricks.!

On Saturday, february 11, the assam government, led by chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, approved the assam Remedies (Prevention of Evil) Practices Bill, 2024, during a cabinet meeting. This legislation aims to prohibit and eradicate so-called magical remedies presented as treatments for congenital conditions such as deafness, muteness, blindness, physical deformities, and autism.

 The decision reflects a commitment to prevent individuals from exploiting vulnerable individuals in the name of medical treatment. chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his determination to address this issue, emphasizing that the government is resolute in curbing activities that exploit people by falsely claiming to offer medical solutions. 


The proposed bill envisions strict punishment, including imprisonment and fines, for those found guilty of engaging in illicit acts under the guise of magical treatment. In addition to the legislative development, the cabinet decided to implement changes in the state municipal cadre. Ten cities or towns have been identified for a specific sustainable development program. 


The concept, named "Ten City Development Concept (Two Cities One Solution)," aims to ensure comprehensive and sustainable urban development. A state-level steering committee will be established to monitor the effective implementation of this program across the selected cities. cabinet minister Jayant Mallabarua highlighted the significance of the assam Remedies (Prevention of Evil) Practices Bill, 2024, in addressing fraudulent practices related to magical treatments. 


The legislative framework is poised to strengthen the legal mechanisms against exploitative practices, safeguarding the well-being of citizens and upholding ethical standards in healthcare.
