As the lok sabha elections approach, new regulations regarding the amount of gold jewellery allowed on indian Railways trains are being considered. Reports suggest that passengers wearing jewellery exceeding specified limits may data-face questioning by security forces, with the potential confiscation of excess items if satisfactory explanations are not provided.

The government is expected to issue explicit instructions in this regard to curb potential smuggling activities, especially during election periods when strict measures are implemented to prevent the transportation of cash and liquor. The proposed limits for gold jewellery are outlined as 100 grams for male passengers, 250 grams for unmarried women, and 500 grams for married women.

Exceeding these limits could prompt inquiries during the election season, and passengers must provide satisfactory responses regarding the source and purpose of the jewelry. Security forces are authorized to take appropriate action if answers are deemed unsatisfactory. The focus on monitoring gold and money extends beyond trains to various locations during the lok sabha elections, as political parties and candidates are scrutinized for potential smuggling activities.

Security forces will maintain vigilant surveillance on buses, trains, and cabs, aiming to prevent illicit transportation of valuables during this crucial period. These measures are implemented to ensure the integrity of the electoral process and deter any attempts to manipulate or influence outcomes through undisclosed financial transactions.
