When traveling by train, having a valid ticket is crucial, and failure to comply with this requirement can lead to various actions by the Railway Police. If an individual is found travelling without a ticket, the Railways have the authority to impose penalties. As per railway rules, the person may data-face imprisonment for up to six months or be subjected to a maximum fine of Rs 1,000. The minimum fine is set at Rs 250, and the penalty includes the cost of the ticket for the distance travelled.

If someone purchases a sleeper coach ticket but travels in an AC coach, they can be penalized. In such cases, the individual is liable to pay the fare for both the AC and sleeper coaches, along with additional penalty charges imposed by the Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE).


When booking tickets online, it is mandatory to provide a valid ID. Failure to present an ID during online ticket booking may result in the individual being treated as without a ticket, incurring appropriate penalty charges.


For those traveling under the influence of alcohol, severe consequences apply. Traveling in a train after consuming alcohol can lead to immediate removal from the train, a fine of Rs 500, and imprisonment for up to six months. Additionally, young individuals caught traveling without a ticket may data-face a fine of up to Rs 250. Railway authorities enforce these measures to ensure compliance with ticketing regulations and maintain a secure and orderly travel environment.
