Protests in Karnataka's Mandya after Hanuman flag taken down

As tensions rose in Karnataka's Mandya district following the removal of a saffron flag, security was tightened up, and a large number of police officers were deployed after the bjp and Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) scheduled a protest demonstration today. Heavy troops were deployed in Keragodu village, where the district government removed the Hanuman flag flown by the Gramme panchayat Board atop a 108-foot flagpole on Sunday, sparking a major protest.
The bjp and JDS have scheduled a protest demonstration from Keragodu to the district Collector's Office, and Section 144 restrictions have been enforced. A debate over a Hanuman flag in Keragodu hamlet, Mandya, Karnataka, has resulted in political clashes, rallies, and police action. The event occurred last week when a group of guys constructed a 108-foot flagpole and raised a Hanuman flag. Because of the stressful circumstances, the village has issued prohibitory measures under Section 144.
The local panchayat had granted permission to build the flagpole, but objections were submitted, prompting officials to urge that the Hanuman flag be removed. However, villagers remained solid in their choice, accusing a few individuals of seeking to politicise the situation.  A huge police presence was deployed, and representatives of the bjp, JD(S), and Bajrang Dal joined locals in their protest against the removal.
Protests erupted on saturday as locals closed their businesses in protest. Yesterday, Gramme panchayat officials visited the village to remove the flag, prompting a crowd of people to yell 'Go Back' chants in protest of the officials.
