The indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is gearing up for another milestone as it prepares to launch the Insat 3DS satellite, adding another jewel to its crown of space achievements. This satellite, following in the footsteps of the Insat 3D and Insat 3DR satellites already in orbit, is specifically designed to enhance services in the field of weather observation.

This is scheduled to be launched from Sriharikota, the Insat 3DS satellite aims to contribute to weather forecasting and provide early warnings for natural disasters. The launch window for this mission is set between february 17 and march 17. Key tests have been successfully conducted at the professor UR Rao Satellite Centre in Bangalore, and the satellite will soon be transported to Sriharikota for the final preparations.

Weighing 2275 kg, the satellite is dedicated to the study of meteorological issues and disaster management. With its advanced capabilities, it is poised to play a crucial role in monitoring weather patterns and issuing timely alerts. Preceding the Insat 3DS launch, isro is also set to launch the Nisar satellite, a joint venture with nasa (National Aeronautics and Space Administration). The Nisar satellite, designed for earth imaging, boasts a significant price tag of Rs. 12,500 crores, making it the most expensive earth imaging satellite globally.

This collaborative effort aims to monitor changes in land, soil contours, wetlands, volcanoes, ice sheets, glaciers, rivers, and sea ice, providing valuable insights into climate-related variations on Earth. isro continues to play a pivotal role in advancing space exploration and earth observation through these prestigious projects.
