At the storied jawaharlal nehru Stadium in chennai on Friday, prime minister Narendra Modi will officially open the Khelo india Youth Games 2023, ushering in a two-week long athletic festival. More than 5,500 athletes from 26 competitive sports will compete in the event, which is scheduled to take place from january 19 to january 31. A complete five-tier security cover has been placed over chennai in advance of the arrival of prime minister Modi. Drones have been given a no-fly zone, and a whopping 22,000 people have been sent into the city to keep everything safe and in order.

In an effort to increase security, only regular employees with identity cards are permitted entry onto the airport grounds, while contract workers are prohibited from utilizing the runway at chennai Airport.

It is anticipated that prime minister Modi will land at the airport in chennai and take a helicopter to INS Adyar. From there, he would travel in an open car to the jawaharlal nehru Stadium in time for the games' formal opening. The police will reroute traffic and keep an eye on the route from high-rise buildings along the route in order to guarantee the security of the Prime Minister's itinerary.

PM Modi will also unveil and lay the groundwork for initiatives in the broadcasting sector, estimated to be worth ₹250 crore, during the inauguration ceremony. This comprises four DD transmitters in Jammu and Kashmir, twelve Akashvani FM projects spread across eight states, and the debut of the redesigned DD Podhigai channel as DD Tamil. The prime minister will also officially launch 26 new FM transmitter projects across 12 states. Athletes from a variety of sports, including football, kabaddi, volleyball, Judo, weightlifting, squash, archery, boxing, badminton, table tennis, cycling, gymnastics, swimming, tennis, shooting, yoga, and wrestling, will compete in the sporting event. Notably, for the first time in the history of the Khelo india Youth Games, the traditional sport of tamil Nadu, silambam, will be added as a demo sport.
