Using different types of rice flour, Kolam is a popular art form that involves sketching on the ground, specifically near the entrance portion of the house, and is considered a sign of auspiciousness and welcome.According to prime minister Modi, "The celebration of pongal symbolizes the national belief of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat." The Kashi-Tamil Sangamam and Saurashtra-Tamil Sangamam traditions, which document the enthusiastic participation of a large number of tamil people, exhibit the same attitude. "This sense of unity is the most powerful weapon to build a Viksit Bharat by 2047," stated the prime minister.
