On saturday, people from the twin cities travelling to their hometowns to celebrate the sankranti holiday had to wait for hours at several toll plazas, particularly those along the vijayawada Highway. Law enforcement and traffic officers from the Bhongir and yadadri districts directed toll plaza operators to unlock all gates.

Following a massive queue at the Korlaphad toll plaza, nine of the twelve counters were reserved for vehicles travelling to Vijayawada. "This occurs every year. Families travelling to their hometown to enjoy the event must wait for hours. "Our personnel used to provide them with drinking water while clearing the vehicles from the gates," a police official explained.

Rachakonda police commissioner G. Sudheer Babu, who visited the Panthangi toll plaza on saturday evening, stated that appropriate precautions had been taken to avert traffic bottlenecks and mayhem like those on Friday. "Our officers are engaged in controlling and diverting vehicles depending on the situation," he went on to say.

Traffic came to a halt at toll plazas on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada national highway on friday owing to a rush of people heading to their hometowns from hyderabad for the prolonged sankranti holiday, january 15, which falls on the second saturday and Sunday.
