Telangana - Last Date for Discount on Traffic Challans Extended

SIBY JEYYA
The telangana government extended the deadline for reductions on pending traffic challans on automobiles in the state on Wednesday, january 10, in response to high demand and to alleviate the financial strain on the public. The concessional deadline for outstanding challans has been extended from january 10 to january 31.

The telangana traffic police have recommended persons having pending challans against their cars clear them using the e-challan website while the discount is available. Discounts on penalties are differentiated by vehicle category. For example, if someone needs to pay 1000 rupees, they must pay 25% of that amount, or 250 rupees. Once the payment is completed, the remaining balance will be immediately waived.

Discounts are not applicable for all violations

Although challan reductions apply to all types of cars in telangana, they do not apply to all offenses. A netizen on X posted a screenshot of the before and after discount fine amounts, which stayed the same. In response, the hyderabad Traffic police X handle clarified that the discounts on challans apply only to violations before november 30, 2023.

Below is the discount proposed as per the category of vehicle

1. For two-wheelers and autos, if 20% of the challan is paid, the remaining 80% of the pending challans will be waived.
2. For push carts and petty vendors (39b cases), if 10% of the traffic challan is paid, the remaining 90% will be discounted or waived.
3. For light motor vehicles (LMVs), cars, jeeps, and heavy vehicles, if 40% is paid, the remaining 60% will be waived.
4. For Road Transport Corporation (RTC) drivers, if 10% of the traffic challan is paid, the remaining 90% will be discounted or waived.
