Alaska Airlines plane door blows out mid-air, makes emergency landing

On friday (local time), an Alaska airlines flight carrying 174 passengers and six crew members made an emergency landing in Portland, Oregon, after an exit door and a portion of its fuselage burst out in mid-air. It was unclear whether anyone had been hurt. Images on social media revealed the plane's back mid-cabin evacuation door wall gone. This door was initially intended for evacuation purposes, but is now permanently "plugged" on Alaska airlines aircraft.
The trip was performed by a Boeing 737-9 MAX, which was built just two months earlier and will be certified in november 2023.
The plane, which was headed to Ontario, was involved in an issue shortly after takeoff and returned to Portland safely at 5:26 p.m. (local time).
Passengers described their terrifying encounter as a nightmare.
"I open my eyes and the first thing I see is the oxygen mask right in front of me," a 22-year-old passenger told the New York Times. And when I glance to the left, the wall on the plane's side has vanished. "The first thing that came to mind was, 'I'm going to die.'"
"I can't imagine what these passengers went through," said Anthony Brickhouse, an air safety specialist. It would have been audible. That cabin would be filled with wind. It was most likely a rather violent and frightening affair."
