Among these, there were 17% more deaths than the previous year. Additionally, there has been a 20% increase in injuries. Since 2005, india has experienced over 4.5 lakh traffic accidents annually. By 2020, this number has fallen below four lakhs at the time of the national shutdown. At that time, the nation saw 3 lakh 72 thousand 181 accidents, resulting in the deaths of 1,38,383 persons.

The driver's demands and arguments during the protest

Drivers are demonstrating against the new legislation provision all around the nation. The All india Truck drivers Association has issued a strike call. They want the government to revoke the new hit-and-run law, and they want to continue their strike until that happens. He will not operate a truck or bus till then. In many states, the transportation network has completely stopped. The new transport regulations are also opposed by transport traders. 

There are differing justifications among the demonstrators nationwide against the new legal requirement. He talks about what would happen to his family should he spend the next five or ten years behind bars. Regarding the claim that he fled the scene of an accident, the motorist in protest claims that if he does not flee, the crowd will assault him and perhaps possibly murder him. After traffic accidents, the public frequently grows enraged. Additionally, some drivers who are protesting say that although the government has implemented stringent measures in cases of "hit and run" similar to those in other nations, it should prioritize improving India's road and transportation infrastructure to match that of other nations.
