Telangana Elections 2023 - Congress crosses Halfway Mark, Solid Lead
The congress has surged ahead in telangana, where ballots for the 119 assembly seats are being tallied today. According to preliminary results, the congress has 63 seats, three more than the majority, while the governing Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) has 25. If the current trend continues, this will be the first time that India's youngest state is led by a different party. The BRS has been in charge since the state's inception in 2014.
The ruling party depended on welfare initiatives, such as the Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bima programs for farmers, the Dalit and bc Bandhu schemes for the underprivileged classes, and the Gruha lakshmi project to provide houses to the poor, to combat anti-incumbency.
