A party of visitors was almost swept out to sea while trying to take a shot on Iceland's most hazardous beach, Black Sand Beach. A guy and a lady were observed strolling towards the seashore while lifting their hands over their heads in preparation for a photograph.
A little wave broke into the shop shortly after. As it approached the visitors, they attempted to flee but were unable to do so owing to the tight hold of the wave. Both of them fell, but the man was able to grasp the woman and save both of them.
The video was uploaded to TikTok by user kelseystarlight, who captioned it, "This is what happens when you're a cocky tourist and don't listen to the rules whyyyyy are people like this?!"
"Black Sand beach is Iceland's most dangerous beach (and one of the most dangerous beaches in the world) due to "sneaker waves" that appear calm and small, but are actually so powerful that they drag people out to sea and people have died here." The first rule at this beach is "never turn your back on the waves" and "don't go where you can't see other people's footprints," the user said.
Other users shared their thoughts, with one writing, "Who walks on obviously saturated sand and doesn't think the waves go up that far?" "Is it just me, or is it obvious that this would happen given the data-size of the waves and the slant of the shore?" "You can see where the wet sand is," another user said, while another stated that "there are literal signs on that beach warning you about trainer waves."
"To get to this exact spot, you pass a sign with a picture of the last person swept out to sea by sneaker waves and yet here they are," one user remarked, adding, "You can tell by how far smooth the sand goes." "They're laughing, but they have no idea how close they were to a life or death situation," one person remarked.
