UP man hacks bus conductor with cleaver for 'insulting Prophet'
According to the Prayagraj police, the incident occurred on friday morning when the accused, named Lareb Hashmi (20), engaged in a ticket price argument with the bus conductor, Harikesh Vishwakarma (24). Hashmi, a first-year engineering student, assaulted Vishwakarma with a cleaver, causing severe damage to his neck and other body parts.
Hashmi then hopped off the bus and went into hiding on a college campus.
Hashmi reportedly recorded a video inside the campus and shared it on social media. Hashmi is seen admitting to the act and accusing the bus conductor of blasphemy and "insulting Prophet Muhammad" in the alleged footage.
In the footage, he is seen wielding the cleaver with which he cut the conductor.
In the video, the culprit is also heard using the terms, prime minister Narendra Modi and yogi Adityanath.
Another video, shot from inside the bus, shows Hashmi going outside, holding the cleaver.
Mangla Yadav, the bus driver, later recounted the incident, saying, "Suddenly, there was an attack inside the bus." I halted the bus after hearing a noise."
Yadav stated that they took Vishwakarma to the hospital for medical attention.
When a police squad arrived to retrieve the firearm used in the crime, he reportedly shot at them.
However, in retaliatory fire from the police, he was shot in the leg and detained. He is taken to the hospital for treatment of the gunshot wound.
"Following the incident, the accused was arrested by the police and a case under the relevant sections of the indian Penal Code was registered," said Abhinav Tyagi, the Deputy Commissioner of police (DCP) of Prayagraj's Yamunanagar region. "More research is being conducted."
