Asian Games: India claim gold in women’s kabaddi for country’s 100th medal

With a stunning 26-25 victory against Chinese Taipei in the women's kabaddi final on Saturday, the indian delegation won the Asian Games' 100th gold, a first. The women's kabaddi team has won the continental championship three times, improving on its second-place showing in the previous Games in indonesia and realising the nation's goal of reaching the historic three-figure milestone for the first time.

The Chinese Taipei ladies tested the indian women to the very limit in the final, just missing out on the championship by one point. In the final two raids, the indian squad displayed steely grit to win the match. The spectacular raid by Pooja, one of the stars of the dramatic title match that also resulted in the team's coach receiving a caution and a green card, gave india a five-point advantage at the half.

The prime minister, Shri narendra modi has congratulated Kabaddi Women's team for winning a historic gold medal at the Asian Games. The prime minister posted on X (formerly Twitter), "It is a historic moment for india at the Asian Games. Our Kabaddi Women's team has clinched the Gold! This victory is a testament to the indomitable spirit of our women athletes. india is proud of this success. Congrats to the team. My best wishes for their future endeavours."
