According to officials, persons who have worked 100 days under the state-run Ayyakankali Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme (AUEGS) and the mahatma gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) would receive an onam festival allowance from the kerala government."It has been decided that those who have served 100 days under the MGNREGS and AUEGS would get Rs1,000 festival allowance. At a press conference on friday in Thiruvananthapuram, finance minister KN Balagopal stated that around 4.6 lakh workers in the state would receive this benefit. A total of 46 crore rupees has been set aside, the minister continued, to pay the allowance. According to a representative of the finance division, the state government had previously provided MGNREGS employees with similar payments during festive occasions.AUEGS, a programme operated by the Directorate of Urban Affairs, was introduced by the state government in 2010 and is modelled after MGNREGS. Its goal is to give members of urban households at least 100 days of minimum wage, unskilled manual labour each year. It was created as a social safety net for people without full-time jobs.The state government had already announced a festival bonus of 4,000 rupees for workers in state-run industries, as well as a festival allowance of 2,750 rupees for those who aren't eligible for the incentive. According to the finance minister, almost 13 lakh people in kerala are qualified to get the extra benefits for Onam.
