Tomato Prices Increase to Rs.140 per Kg now!
Not only in tamil Nadu but also across the country, the price of tomatoes has been increasing for the last two months. Tomato yield is low in tamil Nadu. The state needs to depend on the data-border districts of andhra pradesh and Karnataka. For the past one month, a kilo of tomatoes has been selling at more than Rs.100.
Even though tomatoes are being sold in government sponsored farm green shops and fair price shops, the price has not come down. In this case, the price of tomato rose to Rs. 140 per kg in Koyambedu market yesterday. In foreign markets, the retail price is Rs.160 per kg.
In this regard, Koyambedu Flower, fruit and fruit Traders Association President M. Thiagarajan says, "Tomato production has decreased due to heavy rains in northern states as well. Traders in the state buy tomatoes at higher prices from farmers who send them to Koyambed.
Due to this, there is fierce competition in bringing tomatoes to Koyambed. Now tomatoes have started coming to Koyambedu market from Theni and Udumalaipet areas. It is not known how many days it will arrive. If it continues, the price is likely to decrease,” he said.
