Complaint about asking for money for housing project in Arur - Handicapped person commits suicide

Relatives of the panchayat leader, who caused the suicide of a disabled person near Arur, staged a road blockade demanding the arrest of him. Traffic in Arur was affected due to this.

Kokkarapatti panchayat is under Arur panchayat Union of Dharmapuri District. Palanivel (39) belongs to Old Kok Karapatti village under this panchayat. Disabled person. His wife is Sukuna. Has 2 children. As the house belonging to them was dilapidated, they were living in the dilapidated house for the last 3 years without any alternative place.

In this case, under the government's housing scheme, they have appealed to panchayat Chairman Manimaran requesting to provide them with a house. But the panchayat president did not take any action.

Meanwhile, Palanivel and his family stayed in a nearby ration shop area as it had been raining continuously for the past week. Arun, the village administrative officer who came to know about this, pacified them and sent them home.

Palanivel, who was in agony after seeing his family suffering without a house to live in, committed suicide by hanging himself in the dilapidated house yesterday. Suguna lodged a complaint with the Gopinathampatti police. The complaint states:
We appealed to panchayat President Manimaran to provide them with houses under the housing scheme. But he said that only if he pays money, he can allocate houses in the government scheme. Due to this my husband who was depressed committed suicide. Therefore, strict action should be taken against the panchayat leader who caused the suicide. He said in the complaint.


According to this, the Gopinathampatti police, who registered a case, recovered Palanivel's body and sent it to Arur government Hospital for post-mortem.

Yesterday, more than 200 relatives of Palanivel gathered in Aroor. Arur Roundabout 4 road area was suddenly blocked by people demanding the arrest of the panchayat leader responsible for the suicide of Palanivel. This affected traffic.

The police came to the information and held talks with the protestors. The strike was called off after they promised to take appropriate action. Due to this, traffic was affected for 1 hour on Dharmapuri-Salem-Tirupathur roads.

In the meantime, more than 100 people submitted a petition to district Development Officers Ganesan and Sarvothaman, demanding action to be taken against the panchayat Chairman.
