Monthly pension for social security schemes including old age pension in Tamil Nadu increased to Rs 1,200
It was decided in the cabinet meeting held yesterday under the chairmanship of chief minister M.K.Stalin that the monthly pension amount for social security schemes including old age pension will be increased from Rs.1,000 to Rs.1,200.

When social security schemes were introduced in 1962, Rs.20 per month was provided. It has been gradually increased and now Rs.1,000 per month is given. In this, the differently abled pension has been increased to 1,500 with effect from january 1. Apart from these, old age pension is provided.
Additional expenditure of Rs.845.91 crore: 30 lakh 55,857 beneficiaries are getting monthly pension through all social security schemes. To help them, it has been decided in the cabinet meeting to increase the pension from Rs.1,000 to Rs.1,200.
This will incur an additional cost of Rs.845.91 crore per year to the government. Also, there are 74 lakh people who have applied for pension. A decision has been taken in the cabinet meeting to provide pension to the deserving ones.
Members of 18 Non-Organized Labor Welfare Boards under Handloom, Labor Welfare Department and Construction Labor Board members will also benefit from enhanced pension. The new pension will be paid from August.
A total of 35,925 camps will be held in the month of august for the Artist Women's Entitlement Scheme in 3 phases. The chief minister is determined that not a single eligible beneficiary should be left behind in this scheme.
