Most of the migrant labour who live in Badrinath's minority population are there to work on the Himalayan temple's restoration projects. Muslims in badrinath have been asked by the police to celebrate Bakrid (Eid al-Adha) in joshimath, which is located around 40 kilometres distant from the temple town. Most of the migrant labour who live in Badrinath's minority population are there to work on the Himalayan temple's restoration projects. "On Tuesday, there was a meeting with representatives of the minority community, clergymen, and project contractors. The "namaz" of Bakrid would be offered in joshimath and not badrinath, it was decided by all, according to K C Bhatt, SHO, badrinath police station, who spoke to PTI on Wednesday.

According to him, there is no opposition to performing namaz in honour of Bakrid outside the shrine town. One of the principal Char Dham locations is Badrinath. According to praveen Dhyani, the head of the Badrish Panda panchayat, all communities came together at the badrinath police station for a meeting and decided to uphold the town's honour. The Muslim community agreed to skip the Bakrid prayers in badrinath and promised to attend the celebration in joshimath instead. Two years ago, anger in badrinath flared up after allegations that members of the minority community—mostly construction workers—offered covert prayers inside a building on Bakrid.
