16 soldiers killed, 4 injured in truck accident...
On friday morning in North Sikkim's Jema region, an accident occurred involving an indian army convoy. A convoy truck abruptly collapsed into a steep valley, killing 16 soldiers inside and critically injuring another four.The indian army said that on friday morning, a convoy of three army vehicles departed from Chaten in the direction of Thangu. A steep slope at a sharp turn caused the driver of a truck in the convoy near Lachen, in the jema area, to lose control, and the truck plunged directly into a deep abyss.
Officials with the army report that a rescue effort was started right away. Four troops found injured and in serious condition were among the 16 soldiers in the truck who were killed instantly. The injured soldiers have been transported to the hospital by airlift.
