More than 60 people were killed and many others are missing (Morbi Bridge Collapse) when a century-old bridge over the Machhu river collapsed in Gujarat's Morbi city on sunday evening. There were about 500 people on the bridge when it collapsed. It is feared that more than 100 of these people are still trapped in the river, and the work of saving them has started.


Now the question arises that how this old bridge has suddenly collapsed. The important thing is that recently this bridge has been rebuilt. According to officials, it was recently reopened to the public after reconstruction. Officials say that suddenly the bridge collapsed as it could not bear the weight of the people standing on it.

This bridge of Morbi is 143 years old

Let us tell you that this bridge was first inaugurated on february 20, 1879, by the governor of Mumbai, richard Temple. It was completed in 1880 at a cost of about 3.5 lakh rupees. All the goods came from england and it was made to connect Darbargadh with Nazarbagh.

Recently the bridge was opened again

Now, this hanging pool is used to connect Mahaprabhuji's seat and the entire Samakantha area. This suspension bridge is more than 140 years old and its length is about 765 feet. The important thing is that this bridge was closed for the last two years and it was reopened after renovation on 26 october on the occasion of Gujarati New Year, unfortunately on 30 october itself it has become a victim of a major accident.
