Amaravati farmers pause Padyatra over standoff with police
The state government should abandon its plan for three state capitals and instead focus on developing amaravati as the sole capital, according to the maha Padyatra that was started last month from amaravati to Arasavalli in the srikakulam district. On saturday morning, several police officers encircled a function hall where farmers were staying and detained visitors who came to show support for the Padyatra participants. Farmers and police got into a fight after the police required that participants provide their ID cards and made it clear that only vehicles with prior permission would be allowed in the Padyatra.
The High Court's directive that no more than 600 persons engage in the Padyatra was referenced by the police officers. They informed the organisers that anyone who came to show their support were not permitted to join the march in accordance with the court's ruling. The government and the police, according to the amaravati Parirakshana Samithi (APS) and amaravati Joint Action Committee (JAC) leaders, are attempting to obstruct their Padyatra. After holding a discussion, they resolved to postpone the Padyatra until the high court had ruled on the case. The police allegedly brutally attacked women at pasalapudi village on Friday, according to the village authorities. G. tirupati Rao, the head of the APS, expressed concern for women's safety.
