13: The Musical Review - Poppy & Conventional Teen Story
Eli Golden plays Evan Goldman, the protagonist of 13: The Musical, who must deal with a depressing world. The New Yorker, whose parents just divorced, is relocating with his mother to Walkerton, Indiana, a small town where she grew up, where he will now have to have his Bar Mitzvah. He must figure out a method to acquire new friends quickly enough to invite them all in order to make it the best coming-of-age party ever, which could be difficult. The number of Jews in Walkerton is then tripled by him and his mother moving in with his grandmother. Evan's troubles, however, swiftly reveal to be those of a lot more typical teen film when any part of a culture-clash narrative is quickly dropped.
One of those cinematic musicals that is eager to rush from song to song is 13, and anyone who isn't already prone to Broadway exuberance will likely find that difficult to sit through. The numbers frequently chase a particular visual dynamism through camera movement and group dance, which gets wearisome when used so frequently in quick succession. The song itself is highly perky.
