Humble auto-rickshaw driver catapulted to CM's driving seat - Part 2
After the MVA experienced setbacks in the biannual elections for the rajya sabha and Legislative Council, a group of MLAs led by Shinde staged an unprecedented mega-rebellion against thackeray on june 20. They set a requirement that the Sena leave the MVA's "unnatural alliance" and join forces with the BJP. In order to protect "Balasaheb Thackeray's Hindutva," Shinde insisted that this was necessary in light of the sentiments of the Maharashtrians who had voted for the Sena-BJP in 2019. Without any other choices or the backing of over 40 Sena MLAs, thackeray adopted the only available option and announced his resignation in good standing late on Wednesday. This allowed Shinde to be elevated to the position of cm the next day.
