Atmakur bypoll to be a cakewalk for YSRCP

The ruling ysr congress Party (YSRCP) is expected to win the by-election to the atmakur Assembly seat in andhra pradesh with the main opposition telugu desam party (TDP) staying out, but the bjp has entered the battle to prove a point. The YSRCP is confident of a strong win in the june 23 by-election, which was forced by the death of Mekapati Goutham reddy, the jagan Mohan Reddy-led Cabinet's minister for industry and Information Technology.

Jagan mohan reddy was certain that a member of the Mekapati family should represent Goutham Reddy's seat for two terms in a row. The name of keerthi reddy, Goutham Reddy's wife, arose as a possible YSRCP candidate, but she expressed no interest in running. vikram Reddy was chosen by the Mekapati family to be Goutham Reddy's political heir. vikram Reddy, the second son of former mp Rajmohan reddy, is the CEO of KMC Construction. He earned his bachelor's degree from IIT madras and his master's degree in construction management in the United States.

Vikram's election is a foregone conclusion, according to political pundits, because of the strong popular support that Mekapati's family enjoys in the nellore district electorate, as well as the sympathy factor. The choice of the main opposition tdp not to run a candidate, as it has done in the past, appears to have made things easier for the YSRCP. Despite Chandrababu Naidu's TDP's vehement criticisms on what it terms YSRCP's "misgovernance" and the renewed energy shown in tdp ranks during its recent "12Mahanadu," the tdp leadership opted not to run a candidate in Atmakur.
