Narikuravar Low Caste Community living in Fear

A government-provided residential facility for the Narikkuvar community in Ulundurpet was in decay 38 years ago. They are currently living in fear. There are 250 narcissistic communities belonging to 75 families in the 6th ward of Ulundurpettai municipality, on the Ulundurpettai-Virudhachalam road. They live with their family in a structure without doors or windows, with disintegrating walls and roofs. "In 1984, on the proposal of the then chief minister MGR, 32 flats were built for our community on one and a half acres of land," Rajendran, who lives in a decaying building, said.

Because the structures were not built to a high enough standard, they have been cracking and crumbling one by one in recent years. There are no doors or windows. The cement cars on the roof move and fall. The wooden frames supported the structure, and we slept in horror with the children at night. There is a swarm of venomous insects, such as snakes, during night. So, for the past ten years, we've been pleading with the government to demolish the structure and replace it with a new one. So yet, no one has been able to submit the ideal solution, which is not surprising.

When asked if they want to develop under the Prime Minister's Housing Scheme since they live in a municipal area, they say the plan isn't appropriate for them because they live in a city. The current chief minister has taken a number of steps to improve the living conditions of the narcissistic community. "We need to understand the condition in rural areas and take action to demolish the outdated buildings and create a new building," he said.
