The tamil Nadu government argued in the high court that the governor transmitted all documentation relevant to the release of seven convicts serving life sentences in the rajiv gandhi murder case to the President on january 27, 2021. Nalini, Murugan, Chandan, Perarivalan, Robert Pius, Ravichandran, and Jayakumar, who are serving life sentences in the murder case of former prime minister rajiv gandhi, were released by the previous AIADMK ministry. The governor was notified of the resolution.
Nalini had filed a petition in the chennai high court, asking for the governor's immediate release without having to wait for his approval because the governor had not acted on the cabinet resolution for a long time, and declaring the governor's decision not to act on the cabinet resolution to be unconstitutional.
During the last hearing of the case, it was revealed that the governor had written letters to the President on behalf of the tamil Nadu government regarding the early release of seven people convicted to life in prison in the rajiv gandhi murder case. The high court then ordered the State to notify the governor of the date on which the files in this matter were transmitted to the President. The case was heard by Chief Justice Munishwar Nath Bandari and Justice Bharatha Chakraborty in a sitting. It was subsequently told that the President had received all of the files connected to the Governor's Office's release on january 27, 2021.
