MK Stalin, the chief minister of tamil Nadu, has set the foundation stone for a shoe factory built by SEZ Developers Pvt Ltd at the Belakuppam Chipkot Industrial Estate in Tindivanam in the Villupuram district at a cost of Rs 500 crore. "The government of tamil Nadu is developing and implementing multiple initiatives today to establish that we are not inferior to anyone or any state in education, employment, economics, career development, and social competence," the chief minister added later at the occasion. I'm honoured to be a part of the groundbreaking event for the seychelles Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Development Agency, a Feng Tay subsidiary.
In 2006, in the presence of then-President Karunanidhi, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the company's footwear manufacturing project was signed. I lay the foundation stone for the project in the Seyyar Chipkot area in 2009. The company, which began with a Rs 300 crore investment and over 5,000 employees, has since invested approximately Rs 2,000 crore and employed over 35,000 people. On behalf of the government and the people of tamil Nadu, I applaud and thank this institution wholeheartedly.
More than 70% of women, in particular, are employed. That is something I appreciate as well. I applaud the company's plans to invest an additional Rs 1000 crore. In the presence of the late chief minister Karunanidhi, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed, and I am delighted to see that the company for which I set the foundation has grown so much in 13 years.
