As the price of raw materials for creating silk sarees has increased dramatically, the price of silk sarees has increased by up to 20%. In the previous year, the cost of raw ingredients for creating silk sarees has risen dramatically. Cora (non-dyed silk yarn), which is used to make silk sarees, has increased in price from Rs 4,500 to Rs 6,800 per kg. The price of a gramme of silk yarn has risen from Rs.5 to Rs.9. Last year, a mark, a 242 gramme lace, was sold for Rs 11,000. Its price has risen to Rs 17,000 at the moment. The increase in prices has necessitated a 20% increase in the selling of silk sarees that are now being produced. The spike in prices, according to silk weavers, has pushed them into poverty and left them jobless.
