The creator of GIF has passed away: 'He was kind and a good man' - wife melting! stephen Wilhide, the creator of the GIF that is shared on social media around the world today, has disappeared. He invented the GIF in the 1980s. GIFs are the most shared meme and reaction on social media sites around the world today. 



Stephen Wilhide, one of the inventors of the GIF, which runs for only a couple of seconds, disappeared last week at the age of 74. He discovered the GIF in the 1980s while working for a company called CompuServe. His invention was not popular because the internet was not so popular at the time. But today it has become a global trend.


He was awarded the Webby Lifetime Achievement Award 25 years later for his discovery. stephen then expressed his gratitude as a GIF even when purchasing the award. Speaking of stephen Wilhide his wife said ‘he was always working alone in the basement of the house.


He even designed this GIF at home and then completely redesigned it. '

Also, his wife, who lamented that stephen died while his family was all around him, said, 'Despite all his achievements, he was a very humble, kind and good man.'
