Bareilly is a Muslim-majority district in Uttar Pradesh's western region. Uzma Ansari lives in a rented house in Ijaznagar, Poundia, with her family. She had filed a complaint against her husband at the local police station last week. The incident occurred on february 14 in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, in the run-up to the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. "Taib Ansari, my husband's mother-in-law, arrived to our house two days before the votes," Uzma Ansari wrote in her complaint. He went on to tell me that I should vote for the Samajwadi Party. Tayyip Ansari confirmed this by returning home on election night.
Arif Ansari, my husband's brother, who arrived with me, inquired as to which political party I voted for. I informed him that I had cast my vote for him in the BJP. I linked this to the party's passage of laws aimed at combating money laundering and providing free food to the underprivileged. Those who were angry with me forced my husband to oust me from the house after hearing this. Then, on march 11th, my husband, who was waiting for the election results, forcibly removed me from the house. He also threatens to divorce me by referring to me as Muthalak. "I had to submit a complaint against him because he didn't inquire as to how much I was taking," she explained.
The Muthalak Act was enacted by the central government as per the order of the supreme Court. Consequently, Muslim women are believed to have voted in favor of the bjp in the last 2017 assembly elections as well. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of complaints against Muthalak in India.
